Reeves Gabrels is a Grammy-nominated guitarist/songwriter/producer probably best known for his work with David Bowie and his aggressive guitar style which combines the visceral energy of rock, the harmonic sophistication of jazz, the emotional honesty of blues and country, and an ear for the unusual. Emerald Guitars is very proud to be associated with Reeves Gabrels.

Reeves began working with David Bowie in 1988, in an experimental project that later evolved into Tin Machine. From 1988-1992, Tin Machine released 3 albums. In 1993 Reeves recorded the Black Tie White Noise record with Bowie, and Gabrels' side band Modern Farmer issued their CD Hard Roe To Hoe in 1994. In 1995 Reeves recorded an avant-roots electric acoustic collaboration with slide guitarist Dave Tronzo called Tronzo/Gabrels Night In Amnesia, he recorded on Jeffrey Gaines' Somewhat Slightly Dazed, and scored the soundtrack for the premiere of the PBS series Discovering Women, all while working on his first solo CD, The Sacred Squall Of Now. Released in Sept '95, the CD features contributions from old friends Frank Black, David Bowie, actor Gary Oldman, Jeffrey Gaines, Hunt Sales, and Charlie Sexton. That same year saw the release of Bowie's Outside, and a worldwide tour (with Nine Inch Nails, with whom Reeves also performed) through 1996. In 1997 Bowie released Earthling, co-produced and largely co-written by Reeves and nominated for 2 Grammy Awards in 1998. Reeves has also worked with artists including The Cure, The Rolling Stones, Natalie Imbruglia, Alicia's Attic, Sister Machine Gun, Public Enemy, Dave Navarro & more.

In 1999 Reeves Gabrels released his second solo album, Ulysses (Della Notte), which was nominated for Yahoo's "Best Internet Only" album in 2000, and featured contributions by Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters, David Bowie, Frank Black, and The Cure's Robert Smith (with whom Reeves also wrote & recorded a track for the movie Orgazmo, from the creators of South Park). Reeves closed out 1999 by resigning his longtime position as David Bowie's guitarist/co-writer/co-producer after the completion of Bowie's Hours record.

In 2001 Reeves spent 3 months in the studio with Ozzy Osbourne, working on songs that eventually became Ozzy's first solo album in years. Reeves also indulged in some east coast dates with his own band, and played the Jimi Hendrix birthday celebration at Seattle's Experience Music Project, before a series of west coast dates with the Reeves Gabrels/Wayne Kramer band. MTV licensed Ulysses for its shows Road Rules and The Real World, and Reeves closed the year by heading into the studio with Mick Jagger.

2002 and 2003 were spent creating two new Reeves Gabrels CDs, the forthcoming Rockonica (due on Favored Nations Records in 2004) and Live...Late...Loud..., the long anticipated and critically praised live CD. Guitar Player Magazine wrote: "His inspiration for guitar parts is not of this galaxy, and technique he uses to manifest the ideas in his crazed little head is jaw dropping... Gabrels is one of those guitar players that, quite simply, redefines guitarcraft. He's obviously a brainiac who has developed colossal technical and compositional skills, but he didn't sacrifice his rock and roll swagger to intellect, and - thank goodness - it's obvious he doesn't give a toss about restraint. It's a shame we don't live in an era where such 6-string talent is globally lauded, because Gabrels is a bona fide 21st century guitar god who deserves massive amounts of Justin Timberlake-style fame - or at least his own reality TV show."

Live...Late...Loud... is available exclusively at the official Reeves Gabrels website, reevesgabrels.com.

We'll be posting new images soon, of Reeves Gabrels with his Emerald guitars!
